Greenfield Named Chair of Committee at National Academies of Sciences

Victoria A. Greenfield, Visiting Scholar in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society, has been named Chair of the newly formed committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, “Reducing the Threat of Improvised Explosive Device Attacks by Reducing Access to Chemical Explosive Precursors.” To assist the Department of Homeland security in its efforts to safeguard the Nation’s people, infrastructure, and economy from terrorist use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the committee will identify priority precursor chemicals used in the manufacture of IEDs, suggest controls that could be considered as part of a voluntary or regulatory scheme, and examine trade-offs among those strategies.
