Weisburd Wins Israeli Award

David Weisburd, Distinguished Professor of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University, has been awarded the Minister of Immigrant Absorption's Prize for Outstanding Scientists after being recommended by the judging committee of the Israeli Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The Academy publishes and promotes Israeli scholarship in both the natural sciences and the humanities.

In addition to his position with Mason, Weisburd is the Walter E. Meyer Professor of Law and Criminal Justice and Director of the Institute of Criminology at the Hebrew University Faculty of Law in Jerusalem.

The Academy awarded Weisburd the prize at an Oct. 26 ceremony at Tel Aviv University. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman and Minister of Immigrant Absorption Sofa Landver were present at the ceremony.

In June 2010, Weisburd accepted the 2010 Stockholm Prize in Criminology, widely considered the most prestigious in the field.
