Seattle Uses Research to Deploy Police Patrols

The Seattle Police Department re-deployed their entire patrol based on research both by Department of Criminology, Law and Society faculty members David Weisburd and Christopher Koper. Mayor Mike McGinn and others highlighted research findings in a video for the Seattle Channel.

Taxman and Rudes Publish Op-Ed on Imprisonment

Professors Faye Taxman and Danielle Rudes of the Department of Criminology, Law and Society published an op-ed in The Free Lance-Star in April titled "Far better ways to fight crime than imprisonment." The article discusses how the primary mechanism for crime fighting in the United States for the last 30 years has focused on building and expanding the capacity of our prison systems which translates into a runaway incarceration system that does not deter criminal behavior.

Interview with Laurie Robinson: The Justice Department as 'Change Agent'

Laurie Robinson is one of the nation’s most influential players, both in government and in academe, in criminal justice. Now a professor in the criminology program at George Mason University in northern Virginia, she recently left her post as Assistant Attorney General for Justice Programs, the U.S. Justice Department agency that makes crime-fighting grants to states and localities and oversees the research and statistical arms of the department.

Hall of Fame Jersey Police Chief Honored by Department

Former Jersey City police chief Frank Gajewski was honored by his city's municipal council in light of his recent induction into the Center for Evidence-Based Policing's Hall of Fame at George Mason University. The center is run by David Weisburd and Cynthia Lum, faculty members of the Department of Criminology, Law and Society.
