Terrorism and violent extremism have become, beyond any doubts, the top national and international security priority of the States and primary concern of individuals as a global phenomenon. Today, virtually no one feels immune from the menace of terrorism. The principal objective of this course is to teach the students better understanding of counterterrorism issues not only through theoretical context and literature but also by providing real life examples and narratives. The class will cover topics such as common elements of terrorism and terrorist activities, tactics, strategies and operational methods of different terrorist organizations, prevention of terrorism and terrorist propaganda, interruption of the various phases of the terrorist recruitment cycle and radicalization, deterrence and stoppage of different types of terrorist attacks including bombings, suicide attacks, shootings and other types of assaults. Risk analysis and threat assessment strategies in addition to counterterrorism and intelligence issues will also be covered. Diverse types of counterterrorism approaches will be studied. Investigation of specific terrorism cases through the subjects covered during the classes will be discussed.  Modules will be supported with actual case studies.
