Section Information for Fall 2017
If you love reading Young Adult (YA) novels, then this is the course for you! We will examine 21st-century YA novels that explore racial, ethnic, class, sexual, and gender identities among teen characters. Possible novelists include Jeannine Capó Crucet, Jason Reynolds, David Levithan, Meredith Russo, Sara Farizan, and Sherman Alexie. We will also read YA literary criticism and investigate major issues and debates in the field. Each student will have a chance to apply concepts and theories learned during the semester to their favorite YA novel.
