This course is about the science of offending and rehabilitation as it applies to interventions that are designed to improve offender outcomes. The goals of this course are: (1) to provide students with a sense of how scientific methods are applied to the study of crime and offender rehabilitation, (2) to explore what is currently known about intervention science and how to apply it to offender rehabilitation programs, (3) to become aware of the limitations of our current knowledge about offender programs, (4) to consider the implications of research findings for correctional practices and public policy more general, (5) to understand how key individual level factors (commonly referred to as criminogenic needs) can be addressed programmatically; and (6) to develop skills in writing persuasively about theories, evidence, and policy in this domain.
This course is approved to apply toward the following concentration(s):
- Criminal Justice
CRIM 490 005 enrollment is controlled. Enrollment requires the department's approval. Student should contact their CLS advisor for approval to register.
