CLS Sponsoring Guest Speaker from U.S. Marshals Service

Thursday, February 18, 2016 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM EST
Johnson Center, Meeting Room E (3rd Floor)

Please join the CLSSA in welcoming Dr. Dave Bierie to Mason on February 18.  He will speak about his career as an "academic" criminologist working in a criminal justice setting and about visual analytics, which he has found particularly useful in his career.  Dr. Bierie earned his PhD from the University of Maryland in 2007.  He then worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Research Criminologist.  From 2010 through 2014, he helped build the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the U.S. Marshals Service.  In this position, he consulted on fugitive investigations, conducted research, and built data-driven tools to assist in the planning and execution of operations.  From 2014 through 2015, Dr. Bierie directed the research program for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention at the U.S. Department of Justice.  Currently, Dr. Bierie is the lead statistician for the U.S. Marshals Service's new analytics branch.  After his talk, Dr. Bierie will hold an informal Question and Answer session; all are welcome to bring a lunch to eat during the Q and A.  Please RSVP for this event and indicate in the comment section if you will be staying for lunch.
