Sylvia W. Voreas is Director of the Internship Program and Term Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society. She teaches Preparation for Internship and the Internship class, as well as Advanced Issues in Law and Society, and has taught Law Justice Around the World. Before joining George Mason University in 2007, she worked as a court-appointed Guardian ad litem representing juveniles. Most of her work was for the Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court for Loudoun County, but she also represented clients in Fairfax and other nearby counties, and appeared in Circuit Court and the Court of Appeals. She worked with cases involving child custody, child abuse and neglect, and delinquency. Between 1988 and 1999, she was a trial attorney for the Office of Enforcement Operations in the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice, where she worked with issues involving electronic surveillance and immigration, as well as a variety of litigation support functions. She also worked as a staff attorney for the United States Sentencing Commission for a couple of years after law school.
