LaToshia Ashley Butler

Research interests include racial disparity in the criminal justice system, perceptions of excessive police use of force, community corrections, evidenced based practices in parole and probation.

Miss LaToshia Ashley Butler became a PhD student at George Mason University in the Fall of 2016. Miss Butler's commitment to public service and the advancement of her community is evident not only in the passion of her conversation as she expresses her ideals, but more importantly through the diligence of her actions. Her involvement in multiple honor societies such as: President of the National Council of Negro Women (Bowie Young Adult Section), President of Alpha Phi Sigma  (National Criminal Justice Honor Society) and graduating from the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice with Honors. Once she graduated with a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park she immediately continued her education and received her Masters of Science degree in Justice, Law and Society from American University with a GPA of 3.8. As previously stated, she is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason with an expected graduation date of May 2020. Her strong desire to acclimate offenders back into society has landed her a position at the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency in Washington, DC. Here she continues to develop community supervision plans for probationers and parolees, provide mediation support and guidance to victims of domestic violence, performs weekly therapeutic counseling group sessions with domestic violent offenders, and analyze offender adjustments while on community supervision.
