Being a part of Mason’s Criminology, Law and Society PhD program has helped me develop tremendously as a student and a researcher because the program has provided me with opportunities to directly impact the field I am studying. As a research assistant, I have been able to work closely with several counties in the United States attempting to reform parts of the criminal-legal system, and to be able to be a part of that and contribute to the betterment of the system through the research I do is incredibly rewarding. Something I am most of proud of from my time in the department so far is helping create the first National Jails Compendium, which both identifies jails in the U.S. for knowledge purposes as well as grants better access for jail-based research.
