Victoria A. Greenfield, Senior Economist at the RAND Corporation and Faculty Affiliate in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society, was awarded the 2023 European Society of Criminology Book Award. Her book, Assessing the Harms of Crime: A New Framework for Criminal Policy, was cowritten with Letizia Paoli and published in 2022 by Oxford University Press.
The book, which was drafted while Dr. Greenfield was a visiting scholar at Mason between 2015-2018, explores harm, and harm reduction, as a conceptual framework for empirical research and policy making in the field of criminology. The award committee praised the book's structure, citing the authors' clarity of purpose, as well as their innovative contribution to criminological research.
Greenfield was recognized at the awards ceremony during the ESC conference in Florence, Italy this September.
