CLS Participates in Policing Symposium in China

Dr. David Weisburd and Dr. Charlotte Gill, with CLS MA student Xiaoyun Wu, recently participated in a symposium in Hangzhou, China as part of the opening ceremonies for the Center for Evidence Based Policing at the Zheijang Police College.  Dr. Weisburd, who is an Honorary Professor at the College, has worked with Professor Xu Tao, the head of the Law and Policing program, over the last five years to advance humane and evidence-based policing in China.  Professor Xu was a visiting scholar in the Criminology, Law and Society Department last year.  Dr. Gill presented her work on community-oriented policing at the conference.  Other presenters included Lorraine Mazerolle of the University of Queensland, Gerben Bruinsma of the Vrei University in Amsterdam, and Nicholas Corsaro of the University of Cincinnati and the Police Foundation in Washington, DC.  Graduate student Xiaoyun Wu played a key role in organizing the event, and acted as an interpreter during the presentations, earning many accolades from the Chinese participants.
