Barnett Launches Advisor Mentorship Program

Barnett Launches Advisor Mentorship Program
Jon May and Stephanie Barnett (seated), and the AMP participants

Criminology, Law and Society Undergraduate Advisor Stephanie Barnett launched the second cohort of the Advisor Mentorship Program (AMP) this week, along with Jon May, the Assistant Director of the Center for Academic Advising, Retention and Transitions (CAART).  Stephanie and Jon started AMP in Fall 2015 as a way to expand the new and continuing advisors' support network at Mason, to foster continued professional development, and to increase sustainability of personal and professional well-being.

The design of the program is to set up one year advisor mentor-mentee relationships.  After applying to the cohort, mentors and mentees are selected and paired based on professional experiences and goals.  Pairs are intentionally matched from different units to support cross-campus collaboration.  During the year, each pair will meet on a monthly basis to discuss progress towards identified goals, attend professional development and social events, and share  resources and advice.  The program's first cohort was so successful that six of the mentors re-applied to the program for another year because they found the experience so valuable.

Best of luck to the AMP participants in 2016 -2017!
