Join us for the 2023 Mastrofski Lecture featuring Dr. Alex Piquero for his talk entitled, “My Life in Crime.”
Dr. Alex Piquero is a nationally and internationally renowned criminologist with expertise in criminal behavior, criminological theories, and criminal justice policy. He has published over 500 articles and is recognized as one of the most cited researchers in the field of criminology. Dr. Piquero is a fellow of the American Society of Criminology and Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences as well as a recipient of several high-profile awards from both associations: the Bruce Smith Sr. Award for outstanding contributions to criminal justice from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Division of Developmental and Life-Course Criminology of the American Society of Criminology
Since August 2022, Dr. Piquero has served as the Director of the Office of Justice Program’s Bureau of Justice Statistics. In this role, he is responsible for guiding national crime and justice data collection efforts. Prior to his appointment at the Bureau, Dr. Piquero served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology & Criminology at the University of Miami and a Professor of Criminology at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to his position at the University of Miami, Dr. Piquero served as the Ashbel Smith Professor of Criminology; the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences; and Director of Social Impact in the Office of Research at The University of Texas at Dallas.
The Mastrofski Lecture is an annual event that honors Emeritus Professor Stephen Mastrofski, the first Chair of Mason’s Department of Criminology, Law and Society.
