Richard Denholm, a retired FBI agent and adjunct instructor in the intelligence studies program at George Mason University, has published a new textbook that provides undergraduate students with an introduction to the U.S. government's collection and use of intelligence. The edited volume, An Intelligence Studies Anthology: Foundational Concepts and Case Studies for the 21st Century, explores the history of intelligence agencies, the intelligence cycle, types of intelligence products, best practices for writing and briefing intelligence, covert operations, counterintelligence, technical tools and legal concepts, and the ways in which law enforcement collects and uses intelligence. Denholm's chapter also describes how the intelligence process can be used to stop health crises, including pandemics.
