Why did you choose George Mason University and your major or area of study?

When applying to colleges I wanted to be in close proximity to the Washington, D.C., area to be able to have multiple opportunities when it came to internships in the future. I also wanted to feel at home at whatever college I chose. For me, the moment I stepped onto campus I knew this was where I wanted to be. I am studying criminal justice with hopes to one day attend law school. Since I was little, I have taken a strong interest in understanding why people chose to commit crimes and the various factors that lead to their actions.

Are there faculty or staff members who have made a difference thus far during your George Mason career?

In the year that I have been at George Mason University, I have had the opportunity to learn from several different professors that have hands on experience in the law enforcement side of criminal justice. One of them was a former FBI agent, where many lessons connected to real life experiences that he had. As well as a law enforcement officer that had worked closely with gang members and was able to provide insight on the outside factors that led the individuals into that lifestyle.

How do you hope to use your degree and studies in the future?

I hope to attend law school in the future, and with my major and a law degree, I wish to be a part of criminal court.

How will the Dean’s Challenge scholarship support your studies?

The Dean's Challenge Scholarship will help me with my studies because it can allow me to explore the option of studying abroad. College can become expensive, and taking on another expense would not be possible without help towards my credits that are taken here at George Mason. Overall, this scholarship allows me to explore opportunities that may not otherwise have been possible knowing that I have the burden of paying for my bachelor's degree.
