Minor in Intelligence Studies
Sanaa Bouzit, 2025
Major: BA in criminology, law and society with a concentration in homeland security and justice, minor in intelligence studies
Plans after graduation: Following graduation, Bouzit will continue her education at George Mason where she will begin studying for a mater’s degree in criminal justice before working toward a doctoral degree in criminology, law, and society. “My goal is to further develop my expertise, contribute to research and policy, and make a meaningful impact in the field of criminal justice.”
Most impactful course: CRIM 350: Counterintelligence. “Our regular discussions of current news and ongoing conflicts required us to critically evaluate real-time developments, assess competing intelligence narratives, and articulate our own informed analyses. Professor Saffer fostered an environment that emphasized evidence-based reasoning and analytic discipline, challenging us to move beyond descriptive summaries and engage in structured, intelligence-focused interpretation.”
Immersive learning with the Fairfax County Police Department
Through the Department of Criminology, Law, and Society, Bouzit participated in the Fairfax County Police Department Community Police Academy. This 10-week program provided a comprehensive overview of police operations, combining classroom instruction with hands-on activities. “Throughout the academy, I gained insight into patrol procedures, criminal investigations, use of force, crime scene processing, internal affairs, and special operations, while also becoming familiar with a variety of police equipment. The experience was particularly impactful because it allowed me to see firsthand the daily challenges faced by law enforcement officers and engage directly with them, deepening my understanding of policing, public safety, and the responsibilities of officers in the community.”
