Semester Scheduling Process

Managing the department’s course schedule involves long-range planning. Surveys are sent out well in advance of the semester (at least 9 months) to all active instructors, as well as those who have expressed an interest in teaching with the department. You must participate in this survey to be considered for teaching. The survey asks for a variety of information that helps the department schedulers determine which courses you are best suited to teach, including

  • the courses you want and feel qualified to teach
  • your preferred course modality
  • your preferred days and times
  • your preferred campus

You will be notified if you are selected for a teaching position, and about six weeks before the semester begins, you will receive a contract.

As a reminder, adjunct faculty members’ instructional assignments are on a semester-by-semester basis. When we find good instructors, we like to have them teach again, but renewal depends largely on course availability and specific section needs, which are often unpredictable and rapidly changing. Thus, non-renewal does not necessarily reflect a negative judgment by the program about a specific part-time instructor’s ability. In addition, it is imperative that you maintain access to your Patriot Pass and email accounts to be considered for continued teaching assignments.
