Steven Bennett is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society. He served 23 years as a Special Agent in the FBI, retiring as the chief of the violence reduction unit, where he oversaw the active shooter response program. During his career he served as a Safe Streets Task Force Coordinator, a Special Agent Assessor, and led an operational unit at the Terrorist Screening Center. Prior to joining the FBI Mr. Bennett was a police sergeant in Springfield, IL. He is a recipient of the United States Attorneys Office Director’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement and the FBI Director’s High Impact Leadership Award.
