Dr. Catherine Kimbrell is a Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy (CEBCP). She received her PhD in Criminology, Law and Society from George Mason University in 2019. Her dissertation focused on the impact of poverty on the pretrial system, for which she was awarded a Philip M. Dearborn Fellowship from the Economic Club of Washington D.C. She received her MA in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and her BS in Justice Studies, with a second degree in German Language and Literature, from James Madison University. She was most recently a senior associate at the Pew Charitable Trusts working on the jails team for the Public Safety Performance Project. Her primary research interests include adult and juvenile evidence-based treatment and crime prevention approaches, research synthesis, and restorative justice. Dr. Kimbrell has worked on numerous funded projects partnering with police departments to improve police responses and victim satisfaction with the police. Catherine is a past German Chancellor Fellow with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, during which she conducted research on Victim-Offender Mediation in Germany. She currently serves as the managing editor for Translational Criminology Magazine.
