Faculty Peer Reviews

It is mandatory that the department periodically conducts peer evaluations of faculty. If you are selected to receive a peer evaluation, you will be contacted by a full-time CLS faculty member who will serve as your evaluator. They will ask you to provide them with materials from your course, including the syllabus, sample assignments, and/or assessments. In addition to reviewing these materials, they will work with you to determine a mutually convenient time to conduct an observation of pedagogic methods via either an in-person or online class visit. Where a live visit is not possible (for example, in asynchronous courses), the observation will be conducted through a review of alternate course materials that are representative of your pedagogic methods (typically through you providing access to your class Canvas site). You are expected to be responsive to your evaluator to help this process run smoothly. If you are not responsive to the initial requests for materials, meetings, access to canvas site, etc., the possibility of teaching for the CLS department in subsequent semesters may be affected.

The evaluator will review your teaching materials and methods and provide both you and the program director feedback on the evaluation, including a brief description of your strengths as an instructor as well as suggestions for improvement.  If the evaluator notes major concerns, you may be asked to provide a written response detailing how the concerns were addressed, prior to the possibility of teaching a future class for the CLS department. Faculty may also request to receive a peer evaluation.
